Why you should read medieval romance if you love Bridgerton

📷: Netflix

Here me out.

You loved Bridgerton, have discovered, or already knew, Julia Quinn and are all about it. The dresses and balls, the duels and torrid sex scenes. And, of course, René-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings. As a reader, you are probably gobbling up as much Regency romance as you can find, and/or re-reading Julia Quinn’s books. (I am currently reading The Viscount Who Loved Me.)

As a medieval romance author, I know without a doubt there are more Regency readers than any other sub-genre of historical romance. The numbers bear out this fact. So my goal is to turn as least one of you Regency readers onto a new genre. Both Regency and medieval romance novels include:

  • Sexy, swoonworthy heroes in dashing attire
  • Heroines itching to find some measure of control in a world that does not favor them having it
  • Grand balls, although medieval replaces glittering chandeliers with candles and torchlight
  • Swords and duels, although in medieval more people are killed #oopsies
  • The promise, indeed titillation, of torrid sex in a society demanding virtue

Granted, medieval romance may offer a bit more battle scenes, though my books focus more on political intrigue and less on blood and beheadings. Both both allow us to escape to a romanticised time and place which pulls us away, even if just for a bit, into a world of romance and happy endings.

So my challenge is this. If you are a Regency reader, or know someone who loved Bridgerton but has never picked up a medieval book, comment below, and I will choose up to ten people to get the first book in my new medieval series, Kingdoms of Meria, FREE even though book one, The King’s Commander has never been on sale.

My aim, to convert at least one reader to a genre that I’ve adored for more than twenty years and that continues to enthralled me. Although I will admit, Simon is pretty damn hot.
